Moody’s background gave few hints of his future greatness. He was the sixth of nine children born to Edwin, a skilled mason, and his wife Betsey. He was only four when his father died and his mother joined the local Unitarian church. The minister was a moderate which probably explains why he baptized the Moody children in the name of the Triune God.
